All the excitement of spring racing

By Hollie Harris

There is less than a week to go until the race that stops the nation. Melbourne Cup is all about spring colour and good times, so dress up in your best spring colour and head to the Peregian Beach Hotel for a world-class feast and perhaps a few bets.
The ultimate excuse for a long lunch and dressing to the nines just got even tastier. For just $55, chef Matt Holt has created an exquisite three-course menu fit for a king or queen.
The menu includes a starter of Hervey Bay half shell scallop with orange moscato and pink grapefruit salsa, polenta and poppy seed crisp. Entrees are a choice of Noosa spanner crab and Fremantle octopus with the freshness of upland cress, carrot and mint pickle or Mauritian curry duck spring roll served with a summery pineapple and coconut coulis.
The menu truly is a celebration of quality Australian produce and the main meals cater to everyone’s tastes. Seafoodies will love the Tempura Streaky Bay King George whiting served with wild black rice and lemon myrtle and pink ginger, baby wasabi leaf, cucumber, truss tomato and orange, finger lime mayonnaise and toasted sesame. Chicken lovers can choose the wood fired organic chicken supreme with roasted purple garlic and chive cream sauce, Bowen mango and Woombye triple cream brie, saute sweet potato, snow peas, brocolini and macadamia will certainly hit the spot. For that red meat indulgence, the local Hinterland grass-fed eye fillet with a liquor Muscat, golden shallot and pink pepper jus, buttered Brussels sprout and creamed green pea, truffle, parsnip and potato rosti. All these main meals are gluten free and vegetarian options are also available on request.
The price includes a complementary arrival drink included to wet your whistle. Choose between a glass of Deutz Cuvee Brut NV (Maryborough) or Stone and Wood Pacific Ale.
There is also a complimentary San Pellegrino on arrival for all lunch bookings.
Andrea Kirwin will be playing after the big race and for those wanting to put their once a year bet on our UBET (TAB) will be open from 7am.
Enjoy all the fun and excitement of Australia’s favourite race day at Peregian Beach Hotel this year.
The main bar will be open from 11am and bookings are essential for lunch on 5448 3111.
