Sea of orange

ON SATURDAY, Noosa Woods will turn to a sea of orange as the women of the Zonta Club of Noosa walk to raise awareness of violence against women.
The walk is part of the UN Women’s 16-day campaign to end violence against women and girls throughout the world.
Zonta memners started the 16-day campaign on White Ribbon Day (Wednesday 25 November) by standing at Bunnings Noosaville to help educate locals about the impacts of violence.
The worldwide campaign runs until 10 December to coincide with the International Human Rights Day, and aims to celebrate victories gained by the women’s right movement, demand violence against women be recognised as an abuse of human rights, as well as raise awareness of the devastating impacts of gender violence.
The awareness walk, Orange Advocates in Action, will start at Noosa Woods, Noosa Heads, on Saturday 5 December at 10am and will continue along the Noosa Boardwalk.
The walk aims to raise awareness around issues that hinder gender equality such as the increasing burden of poverty on women, unequal access to education opportunities and inequality between genders in sharing power and decision-making.
Event organisers said the Zonta Club of Noosa was committed to supporting and promoting campaigns that advocated for women’s right as it was “one of the best ways to fight world poverty”.
“Women invest back into the health, nutrition and education of families and communities,” they said.
