Richness in jazz

SHE’S been described as the songstress with the luxurious voice, now Sarah Collyer is bringing her jazz tunes to Noosa Blue Resort.
Sarah said she has been influenced by jazz greats like Nina Simone and Miles Davis, though finds inspiration in contemporary artists like Melody Gardot, Diana Krall, and even Tom Waits.
Born in Brisbane, Australia, Sarah studied classical and jazz voice at James Cook University and the Queensland Conservatorium, discovering early that jazz was the genre for her.
“My voice just seemed to feel more at home singing jazz than anything else. It just feels natural and really resonates with me. I don’t think I had much control over that,” she said.
After a three years performing in Melbourne, Sarah returned to Brisbane to release her debut album in 2009.
The title track was shortlisted for a QSong Award, the song I Wait was selected for a national Sounds Like Cafe compilation; and the full EP has been receiving radio airplay around the country.
Sarah’s career quickly took flight with a tour of Japan in 2010, followed by performances at Brisbane’s Powerhouse, Noosa Jazz Festival and the Gold Coast Arts Centre.
Sarah will be performing poolside at Noosa Blue Resort on 3 October, from 7pm. Tickets are $10 per person, with all proceeds going to the Katie Rose Hospice. Phone 5447 5699 or email tickets@noosablue.com.au to book your ticket.
