The Editor’s Desk, with Margaret Maccoll
Noosa has a reported 300 community organisations and it’s fair to say none would exist without volunteers. Most are probably run entirely by volunteers.
Entertainment, education, sports, safety, environment, social, emergency services – you name it and volunteers are involved.
Even large organisations like hospitals, aged care centres and schools operate with the help of volunteers.
We couldn’t survive without them.
Yet they receive no pay and just give freely of their time.
Why do they do it? Some say they are giving back for the fortunate lives they have enjoyed, some like the friendships they make there, others have an interest in some field. And for some it is a chance to try something new and experience a different area of life.
National Volunteers Week will be celebrated in a couple of weeks.
To all our volunteers we say thank you.
