Nippers in the know

By DAVID GLASSOCK

ALL the Noosa Heads Nippers from under-8 to under-14 had the opportunity to shine in the second round of our Nipper Club Championships, on Sunday.
The Nippers all turned up ready to compete – and compete they did, each and every one of them, all to the very best of their ability. Nippers raced in swim, board, iron man and woman, wades, sprints and flags events.
I was greatly impressed at the level of sportsmanship displayed by all competitors and I must congratulate all the winners and place-getters.
The highlight though for me on the day was a little under-10 Nipper who at the start of the season would swim 10 or 12 strokes have a breather then repeat until he finished the swim – but yesterday he just put his head down and swum every stroke out around the cans and did not stop once.
He did not get a podium finish, but the pride of his achievement was evident in the smile on his face as he ran up the beach to the finish line – priceless.
To me he also was a winner on the day.
My sincere thanks to all the age managers, parent officials, parent helpers, coaches and the barbecue crew not just for last Sunday but for all that you do. Nippers would not exist without you.
