Going organic

Organic farmers grow what's best at different times of the year. That's why variety and availability can differ throughout the year.

RAW, organic foods are more than just the latest in food trends.
Uwe Wullfen of Your Every Day Organic Grocer Bioshop Noosa shares some food for thought on why organic really is best.

How do you know a product is organic?
Organic products meet stringent standards – certification is the public’s assurance that products have been grown to strict procedures without any chemical inputs.

Why are organic products better for us?
There has been much talk over the years about the link between cancer and other diseases to pesticides. Organic agriculture is one way to prevent nasty chemicals from getting into the air, earth and water that sustain us. Organic farmers build healthy soil. Soil is the foundation of the food chain. The primary focus of organic farming is to use practices that build healthy soils for our future.

When shopping organically, sometimes there is not the range of fruit and vegetables that mainstream suppliers offer. Why is this?
Organic producers follow the season of the sun and grow what is best, when it can. They also strive to preserve diversity. The loss of a large variety of species (biodiversity) is one of the most pressing environmental concerns. The good news is many organic farmers and gardeners have been collecting and preserving seeds, and growing unusual varieties for decades. Why not try something that looks a little different, you might just like it.
