It was a knockout weekend for Noosa boxer, Bryce Hegarty, who not only took out the top prize at the Rising Stars fight, but then backed it up at the Pomona King of the Mountain challenge run the next day.
The 19-year-old competed in the Rising Stars Pro Am last weekend at the Queensland Equestrian Centre, Caboolture, defeating Queensland champion Billy Limov in the 75kg title fight.
Hegarty put in an impressive effort taking down the reigning champion twice and also scoring the best amateur fighter of the night award.
Hegarty trains at the Noosa Box Office under the watchful eye of boxing icon Israel Kani, who had three other students fight on the night; Peter Chiricosta, Abbie Slavin and Keana Welsh.
Following his impressive wins, Hegarty was up early to conquer the gruelling Bendigo Bank King of the Mountain Challenge in the junior division, where he landed the silver medal and was one of eight runners to gain entry into the elite ‘Sub 30 Minute Club’.
Hegarty was one of the first Australians to finish in his division so he will now have the chance to compete in the New Zealand King of the Mountain challenge later this year.
But it’s all preparation now for the energetic Noosa boxer who will next compete in the Golden Gloves boxing tournament in Brisbane in two weeks.
