NOOSA’S Bushland Care Groups are gearing up again for National Tree Day on Sunday 31 July, calling all green thumbs and environment lovers to join the crusade.
Planet Ark launched National Tree Day in 1996 and since then 22 million trees have been planted by more than 3.5 million volunteers.
Councillor Joe Jurisevic said this year’s focus on National Tree Day would be on helping vulnerable wildlife species.
“Volunteers will be planting native trees and shrubs, particularly koala food trees and glossy-black cockatoo ‘she-oak’ trees,” he said.
Schools Tree Day is on Friday 29 July and Sunshine Beach High School students will be busy restoring glossy-black cockatoo habitat while learning about the glossies from Bob Carey, a Bushland Care volunteer and glossy-black cockatoo expert.
The Sunshine Beach and Tewantin North Bushland Care groups will be at the school again for the fourth year running, working hard helping the students with their tree-planting.
Volunteers, including mums and dad and kids, are very welcome to help plant trees on Sunday 31 July at the following locations:
Redwood Bushland Reserve: 9am to 11am between Redwood Avenue and David Low Way, Marcus Beach.
Creek Road Park: 8am to 10.30am at the park entrance between 17 and 19 Creek Road, off Lake Weyba Drive, Noosaville.
Gloves are provided but volunteers are asked to please bring a hat, water bottle and plenty of enthusiasm. Council would like to thank Madills Toyota for sponsoring National Tree Day.
