Pool in limbo

By MEGAN OGLE

THE future of the Tewantin State School’s pool is unknown as the school prepares to receive tenders for new lease owners.
In a recent post on the Tewantin State School P&C Facebook page (14 May), school principal Corrie Connors said operating costs of the pool were not being met and said the school planned to invite offers for the licensing of the swimming pool.
“A meeting was held between the principal and lease owner last week around renewing the lease at an increased cost to ensure costs incurred by the school were covered,” Ms Connors said.
“This is common practice to ensure the school does not continue to run at a loss.”
The Tewantin State School P&C Facebook post on Saturday 14 May said the school would continue to hold school swimming lessons for students during Terms 1 and 4 only should a hire agreement not be reached after August this year.
“School parents can be assured their children will continue to have access to the pool and swimming lessons in the future,” Ms Connors said.
Tewantin State School was contacted for further comment, but did not reply before deadline.
The current lease owners declined to comment at this time.
