Have you ever dreamed of bobbing across a lake in absolute peace, or cutting through the water’s surface with the wind in your sails?
Now is your chance to try it.
For two days this Friday and Saturday, September 22-23, old hands and experienced instructors will be hoisting the sails and beating a course across Lake Cootharaba to give you a taste of sailing.
By the end of course you will be taking the helm and feeling the joy of being at one with the wind and water.
Hosted by the Lake Cootharaba Sailing Club at Boreen Point, the two-day Try Sailing workshop costs just $50, but for those keen to stay and develop more skills on the water memberships are available.
Join the club and you can take part in the Try Sailing workshop, then continue with regular Sunday morning instruction and use of club boats for the rest of the sailing year without any further payment.
Membership is $85 for adults and $45 for juniors or $135 for a family (up to two adults and two children).
The Lake Cootharaba Sailing Club is a family-oriented, friendly club that started in 1946.
Located on the shores of the salty Lake Cootharaba, sea breezes provide what club members believe are some of the best sailing conditions in the world.
Regattas are held throughout the year, including national and state championships for a number of boating classes, from the llboats Regatta in August, the Cat Challenge in November, MonoMasters in December and the climax of the sailing season, the club’s own Easter Regatta.
To get started on your watery adventure with the Try Sailing course, you will need a packed lunch or cash to buy one, sunscreen, a hat, towel, old shoes, swimwear, a change of dry clothes and sunglasses. You can bring your own buoyancy vest, or borrow one from the club.
