Dialled in to Noosa

By Hollie Harris

ON 7 May, 1995, Noosa Community Radio broadcast its very first program from an old Queenslander in Tewantin where they remained for some years until moving to the new premises beside The J in Noosa Junction.
A lot of airwaves have passed since then but on Thursday 7 May, 2015, the 20th anniversary of the station celebrated ‘on-air’ with presenters and members, past and present, special programs and a prize draw for listeners.
Noosa FM provides a wealth of music across the Sunshine Coast and into the hinterland – from just south of Gympie down to Steve Erwin Way.
Unlike some other stations, Noosa FM presenters are able to choose from a huge variety of music genres so every program has its own flavour.
Among them, there are daily Morning Magazine programs dealing with local issues, current affairs and reflecting our local Noosa Council’s issues.
Afternoons have programs reflecting women’s interest, Breakfast gets everyone up and about with chit-chat and lively music, Drive cruises everyone home with some up-beat music and Lunch features a range of blues and jazz.
Presenters committed to featuring local musicians and fully support Peregian Originals. Evenings and weekends feature special interest programs and music genres – so there really is something for everyone.
So what does the future look like for Noosa FM? The station has big plans to expand the broadcasting range during the coming year so that the signal is stronger.
There are some pockets in the area which are blocked by mountains or trees such as Pomona and Montville, and although people around Maleny have great signal, the station wants the whole region to enjoy a load and clear broadcast.
Happy Birthday Noosa FM.
