Tewantin Noosa bowls – Green Master
Members are settling back in after the holiday break, although some members are choosing to avoid the hot weather which is understandable and we look forward to their return.
TNBC: Sunday Men’s Pairs were not played this week due to Men’s Championship A Singles.
Tuesday Ladies: Apologies, bowls were cancelled due to rain.
Noosa Discount Drug Store: Wednesday Men’s Pairs/Triples winners were Rick Mc Donald, Rodney Gunderson and Jim McDonald.
Runners up were Len Saunderson and Ken Johansen.
The jackpot $75 was won and shared by Max, Richard, Bill and Don.
TNBC: Thursday Night’s Twilight (6-9) Open Pairs winners were Evelyn Coghlan (2W+5).
Runners up were Valmai Lynch and Gary Moss (1W+12) with 14 teams participating.
Noosa Landscape Supplies: Friday Open Triples winners were Connie Johnston, Val Reinicke and Peter Larke.
Runners up were Tony Taylor, Ray Larke and Irene Land.
The jackpot of $271 was not won and carries over.
Superchallenge: Commenced Saturday 17 January and members wish the silver and bronze all the very best.
Jack Geitl Fundraiser: The club is pleased to say that Tewantin Noosa Bowls Club raised and donated $955 towards the purchase of a vehicle for little Jack.
The money for this very worthwhile cause was raised through member’s contribution to Wrong Bias Box, Dawn Mc Queens 100 Club, book sales and an anonymous donation. Noosa Heads Bowls – The Chalker
The Bronze Section 8 Super Challenge sides got off to a good start in Saturday’s first round matches.
The men won on three rinks, taking nine points from their home turf encounter with Pine Rivers.
The ladies also made a fine start winning both fours and triples to score the maximum 10 points.
There was not much luck for Section 5, with most rinks being decided on the last couple of ends against Kandanga.
Noosa’s only heroes were Bill Roberts and Bob Heir who had a good win in their pairs match, which was played in extremely hot conditions at Kandanga.
There is no Super Challenge next Saturday due to the long weekend.
A special afternoon has been scheduled for next Monday to celebrate Australia Day.
There’ll be an Aussie barbie before the bowls.
Bill Burkitt and Ron Wallish took the main prize at last Tuesday’s mens pairs, with runners-up going to Rudy Boyer and Walter Zemler.
Wednesday ladies fours winners were Pat Teale, Marie McCall, Verle McComb and Gill MacDonald.
The triples team of Smith, Burkitt and O’Conner were next.
Numbers were down for the Friday Open Jackpot Pairs due to the hot weather.
But it didn’t seem to stop Steve and Jenny Bowie, just back from a month in the deep south, from winning the day.
Winners in the first-round losers section were Mal Lloyd and Ron Wallish.

Pomona bowls
In blistering heat Pomona Men’s Super Challenge Team had a victory over rivals Tewantin-Noosa.
In the singles, Mel Hobbins outplayed his opponent with a great win of 31 to 20.
The doubles pair of Walter Horn and Trevor Walsh were too good for the Tewantin-Noosa boys with a brilliant win of 35-10.
Unfortunately , the fours and triples teams both went down.
With two games even, it was up to the doubles pair of Keith Muir and Nick Twining to win their game.
In a very close game with all players making great shots it came down to the wire with 17 all on the last end.
With the Pomona cheer squad urging them on, Keith and Nick came up trumps picking up five shots winning 20-17 ensuring a Pomona victory 9 points to Tewantin-Noosa’s 2 points. Wednesday saw the Ladies Section back on the green.
Winners of the day were Jeanne Price, Dell Hennessey and skipper Elizabeth Dewhirst who blitzed their opponents with a great win of +20.
Big thanks to Olive MacKellar who always donates the prizes at the first game of the year.
Thursday club selected mixed triples new format was enjoyed by all bowlers.
Eventual winners were Veronis O’Connor, Charlie Dewhirst and Daryl Millar.
Runners up were Rob Roebuck, Elizabeth Dewhirst and Don Mallett.
Friday twilight bowls was again very popular with seven rinks of mixed pairs.
Winners were Elizabeth Dewhirst and Roy Hargreaves with +15 and runners up were Jeff White and Frank Long with +13.

Cooroy bowls
The Hinterland Challenge is now underway, having commenced on Saturday 17 January.
The ladies triples and pairs won both games which also gave them the overall total.
This gave Cooroy ladies a 3-0 win against Woombye.
Pairs team – Bettina Winkler and Ann Lerch.
Triples – Sandra French, Maureen Bottomley and Lynne Hateley-James.
Mens Teams played Nambour losing 3.5 to Cooroy 1.5.
Pairs – Brian Mitchell and David Hateley-James lost 13-to 26.
Pairs – Russell Butler and Bevan Mahoney won 26-to 24.
Triples – Ian Robertson, Roly Hassall, Geoff Green – lost 20 to 23.
Fours – Bill Haack, Gary Kenzler, Kennedy Mc Grath and Merv Griffith – drew 16-16.
The next match will be on 31 January.
