Beach squad shines at state comp

By GEN FRASER

NOOSA SLSC beach squad came away with three State Champions and two State silver medallists at the Surf Lifesaving State Titles held at North Burleigh on the weekend.
“We knew we were in the running to do well and focused on areas that needed work in the weeks leading up to the Titles,” Beach Sprint coach Omar Bakhach said.
“I’m super proud of all of them.”
The state carnival brings together surf lifesaving competitors from as far away as Cairns to battle it out for the honour of being the top athletes in their chosen events.
Among the top level athletes eager to test their speed and skill on the beach were the Noosa Heads SLSC junior beach sprint team, comprising competitors from U11 to U14 years of age.
The medal haul included Gold medals in the U12 female beach relay and individual female sprints; Gold in the U13 female beach relay; Silver in the U14 female beach relay; and Silver in the U13 individual male sprints.
A highlight for the Noosa squad was young Letitia Fox, taking Gold in the U12 individual beach sprint race, and Kai Thompson taking Silver in the U13 male individual sprint.
“At the end of the day, we had a heap of fun and came away with some excellent results and most importantly smiles all around.
“We all had a fantastic carnival and the squad is now pumped for next season,” Mr Bakhach said.
