IT WAS a massive aerobic year for Noosa Masters Swim Club with Masters Swimming Australia recently releasing the official results of the Vorgee Australia Swim Program for 2013.
A record 153 clubs participated throughout Australia, with points allocated for time swam in competition over 400, 800 and 1500 metres for all strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breastroke, butterfly and medley ) plus stroke of choice for 30, 45 and 60 minutes.
Noosa’s foray into this competition picked up momentum in 2010, under the guidance of aerobics co-ordinator Pat Mooney, whose passion for endurance swimming was apparent.
Pat successfully led our club into being number one in Queensland in 2011, before succumbing to ill health, when Marcia Kimm took over the reins. Marcia’s zeal for success, aided by capable timekeeping assistants Lorna Lander, Mary Lester, Bruce Warren, Bob and Olga McCausland, repeating the success as number one in Queensland for 2012 and 2013.
Then the big news at the recent Australian Championships in Rockhampton, the Vorgee Masters Aerobic results for 2013 :
First place: Noosa Masters (Queensland ), 25,161 points.
Second place: Talays Masters (Tasmania ), 19,752 points.
Third place: Darwin Masters ( Northern Territory ), 14,446 points.
Five of Noosa’s swimmers gained maximum points (1000): Mark Besford, Brian Hoepper, Geoff Lander, Rob Lucas and Irene Symons.
Other credible efforts were from: Jacky Shields (891), Brian Cairns (855), Bob McCausland (854), Ian Mitchell (827), Mark Powell (775) and Bruce Warren (775).
With a membership of 93 swimmers for 2013, 69 contributed to the aerobic program.
“To win by 5409 points certainly exceeded our expectations”, Noosa’s aerobics co-ordinator Marcia Kimm said.
On receiving the trophy at Rockhampton, club president Stephanie Jones said: “This remarkable achievement is a reflection of the club spirit among our members.”
