Fresh from the vegetable garden

WINTER will hit Noosa next week and in anticipation of the cooler nights the experts at seasonalfoodguide.com have put together a list of the best winter vegetables to put on your plate this season.
According to the experts, eating seasonal fruit and vegetables purchased locally or grown at home is the best way to ensure you have healthy and fresh produce free of pesticides and harmful chemicals.
This winter enjoy the heartier textures and fuller flavours of winter vegetables such as, beetroot, silverbeet, cabbages, broccoli, peas, asparagus, artichokes and carrots.
You’ll also find an abundance of pumpkin, mushrooms, chillies and onions which are great for those warm and hearty winter soups.
There is also the chance of picking up traditionally summer crops such as cucumbers, zucchini, tomatoes and capsicums thanks to the warmer climate of the region.
If you have a green thumb and want to grow your own fruit and vegetables, seasonalfoodguide.com recommends planting an array of vegetables in June such as broad beans peas, English spinach, garlic, kohlrabi and turnip.
