Police probe butchery blaze

By JONATHON HOWARD

QUEENSLAND Police are investigating the cause of a fire which destroyed a Cooroy butchery in Maple Lane on Saturday.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services were called to the scene about 6.30am.
The fast actions of fire crews contained the blaze at both the front and rear of the property, before the flames had a chance to spread to neighbouring properties and businesses.
Commander John Von Nida told media sources that the fire-fighters removed the iron roof to ensure the flames were not spreading.
Commander Von Nida praised his team for containing the blaze and avoiding further damage to the adjacent businesses and shopping complex.
“It was an older-style building with connections to all the other shops so the fire was just starting to creep into the shop next door when we hit it just in time, so the crews did a good job of keeping the fire at its origin,” he said.
He said if the fire crews had not acted so fast the blaze could have consumed adjacent buildings or eventually the entire lane.
