Hit and run offender pleads guilty

JOLENE OGLE
A Tewantin man has pleaded guilty to six charges, including the dangerous operation of a vehicle and the serious obstruction of police.

Peri King appeared in Noosa Magistrate Court on Tuesday to face charges in relation to a hit and run on Gympie Terrace in October last year that left a nine-year-old boy in a critical condition. The incident occurred when King tried to overtake a four-wheel drive stopped at a pedestrian crossing, while riding a motorbike. The motorbike clipped the side mirror of the vehicle before colliding with the boy and his father. King then fled the scene when the bike wouldn’t start. King has pleaded guilty to six charges, including driving while disqualified by a court order, callous disregard and driving an unregistered vehicle. King will appear at Noosa Magistrate Court on April 15 for sentencing.

HIGH READING FOR PHARMACY ASSISTANT
A local pharmacy assistant has been fined and disqualified from driving after being caught behind the wheel with a BAC of 0.222 per cent. The 20-year-old woman was caught by police, sitting in the front seat of a van with the keys in the ignition, the engine was turned off. Defence lawyer Anna Smith said the woman accepts the law considers her in charge of the vehicle because the keys were in the ignition; however she was listening to the radio with no intention of driving that night, and actually planned to sleep in the vehicle. The woman was fined $750 and disqualified from driving for six months. No conviction was recorded.
