90 years young

By HOLLIE HARRIS

JUNE Chant celebrated her 90th birthday, on Saturday 23 July at Cooroy RSL, with friends and family travelling from as far north as Townsville, west as Toowoomba and south of Melbourne to share her special day.
Born in 1926 in Rosewood, Queensland, she grew up in Grantchester. At age 15 June attended a dance where she saw a photo of a soldier, a Rat of Tobruk, on the wall.
She said I’m going to meet that man and marry him and in 1945, she did meet that man, Mr Ted (Edward) Chant and one month later they were engaged.
In 1987 June and her husband Ted moved to Cooroy, in search of a home in the sun, where June has lived ever since.
When asked what she likes most about Cooroy, June’s eyes light up and she answers: “Everything. It’s such a friendly town. I’ve never spoken to someone here I didn’t like. Such nice people”.
June is a mother of six – Don, Kerry, Greg, Ken, Denise and Glenda – and is affectionately known as ‘Nannie’ to her 15 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
