THE Cooroy RSL has been recognised for its contribution to the community and has been awarded the District Encouragement Award.
Welfare officer Don Scott said this isn’t the only award the branch has been presented with.
“In addition to this award for outstanding efficiency and commitment to sub branch ideals, our sub branch has also won the District Shield twice in the past,” Mr Scott said.
The Cooroy-Pomona Sub Branch is one of more than 40 in the local district of Wide Bay Burnett and boasts more than 20 active volunteers.
The club’s main focus is on the ex-service community where a wide range of services are provided including social outings, pensions and advocacy assistance, welfare assistance and advice, hospital and nursing home visits and regular telephone contact with those who are isolated, just to name a few.
Every month the sub branch puts on something special for ex-service personnel alternating between a Don’s Morning Tea Get Together at the club and a fun bus trip to somewhere interesting.
These valuable social outings greatly benefit those members who have limited social opportunities due to health or transport.
For more information regarding the outings contact the Cooroy RSL on 5447 6131.
