Dealing with lung cancer

CANCER Council Queensland and Lung Foundation Queensland will hold a free education seminar on the Sunshine Coast in August for locals living with lung cancer.
The free seminar, Living well with Lung Cancer or Lung Metastases, will provide information and support to men and women who are living with the challenges associated with lung cancer.
The seminar will be held on Thursday 13 August from 9.30am-noon at Bloomhill Integrated Cancer Care, 58 Ballinger Road, Buderim.
Cancer Council Queensland cancer support co-ordinator Clare Howard said lung cancer patients needed dedicated information and support to assist them with the symptoms associated with a diagnosis.
“Lung cancer is the fourth most common cancer diagnosed in men and women on the Sunshine Coast, and through this we hope to offer practical support and tips for coping with the effects of lung cancer,” Ms Howard said.
“Not only will the seminar provide information and support to those who have been diagnosed with lung cancer or lung metastases, but it will create an opportunity to connect with others dealing with the same issues.
“The seminar will provide practical tips and tricks for managing symptoms such as breathlessness, cough, pain, fatigue and nausea, to increase your daily well-being.
“We will also cover the use of guided imagery and relaxation practice to assist with anxiety and associated concerns.”
The seminar will feature health professionals with specialist expertise in issues related to lung cancer.
Guest speakers include Cancer Council Queensland clinical psychologist Samantha Clutton and PhD candidate Vanessa Brunelli.
“Both our guest speakers have expertise and advanced knowledge about people living with lung cancer and lung metastases,” Ms Howard said.
Reservations are essential and can be made by phoning Cancer Council Queensland’s Maroochydore office on 5451 6000 or emailing maroochydore@cancerqld.org.au before Monday 10 August.
