Ettamogah Pub turning 25

THE iconic Ettamogah Pub is celebrating its 25th birthday this year and has entertained locals, tourists and many a pub enthusiast during its history.
Ken Maynard, the creator of the Ettamogah Mob, the cartoon that was the inspiration behind the Ettamogah Pub, epitomised the larrikin humour of everyday life.
The cartoons proudly hang around the walls of the pub and interestingly the word Ettamogah is Aboriginal for a “place of good drink”.
The Ettamogah Pub with its quirky shape, humorous memorabilia and Blueys Restaurant is a great venue to wet your whistle and fill your belly.
Blueys Restaurant has a new menu featuring high-end pub cuisine, but the old favourites too such as the 400g signature steak.
As well as a great place to visit, the pub is one of the most photographed pubs in Australia and the memorabilia is a great conversation starter and trip down memory lane.
Quirky facts about the pub include the rustic hand-made Blackbutt Gum tables and chairs inside the pub – the wood is from the trees that were on the site when the pub was built.
Over 20 tonnes of steel is in the framework and the truck on top of the pub is a 1927 Chevy from a property in Roma.
The Chevy was restored, painted and delicately lifted into place by a crane to the top of the pub. The ‘other’ story about the Chevy is that it was washed up on the roof in a flood and none of regular barflies could be bothered to get it down – your choice as to what version you believe.
Locals and visitors love to see the history that’s collected inside the pub.
The pub is larger than life, full of odd proportions, is loved by young and old, is 100 per cent Australian and every character and detail inside tells a story.
It’s a unique venue for lunch, dinner and functions or just a pit stop for a cold beer. www.aussieworld.com.au
