Coolum comes out swinging

By DES ADSETT

THE Coolum Tennis year has started well with the first fixture team off the ranks having a 45-31 win over Caloundra.
It was played in windy conditions and a wonderful atmosphere of friendly competition. Congratulations, Annette, Victoria, Gloria and Joan.
Our winning Division 2 team start next week. Good luck to both teams for next week.
We have seen an unprecedented payment of the fees for this year so early in the season. Thank you to all the members and new members who have joined.
If you wish to get your court hire discount and discount at the pro shop, please pick up a membership form from the club. If you need a form sent out online, please email coolumtennisclub2@bigpond.com and one of the committee will email you back this week.
Thanks are needed for the wonderful volunteers who are not on committee, but are helping out. Henry Plint is fixing our fence this weekend and John Boland set up our members’ register to keep track of our club members. It is the members, that make a club and we are lucky to not only have a strong committee, but supportive members.
Other work happening soon is the replacement of the lights on the hard courts in time for the new night tennis formats.
The night tennis starts on 23 February and there are places for both social and competitive players.
If you are interested, Adam Spence has more details. He can be contacted on 0400 214 419.
Junior coaching has also started and there are still places available at all levels. If you are interested, please ring Andrew on 0421 391 505.
