THE Noosa Boardriders Club have taken out the coveted Straddie Assault for the first time ever.
The Straddie Assault is Australia’s longest running teams surfing competition with a 32-year history and as an invitation only event, just 16 of Australia’s premier clubs from Lennox Heads to Noosa took part this year.
The Noosa Boardriders Club (NBC) win comes on the back of second place at the Kirra Teams challenge earlier this year showing Noosa is producing some great results and is one of the strongest clubs at the moment.
Competitors at the Straddie Assault included Ethan Trotman, who came second in the Under 16 round, Aaron Kelly who came first in the Under 18 round, Harry Bryant who came in with a second in the Under 18 round, Thomas Cervi who finished the opens category with a first place win, followed by Hayden Cervi who also took out a first place win in opens.
Daniel Vardy came in second in the over 30s, Tori Farmer came in fourth in the women’s opens and Dean Brady finished the opens category with a first while also taking out the award for best manoeuvre.
Thomas Cervi and Aaron Kelly also competed in the teams event and came an impressive third place.
Noosa Boardriders Club member Jack Lewis said everyone had an amazing weekend at the championships.
“We all worked together as a team, and the spirits were high,” he said.
“The Noosa tent on the beach was filled all day with our competitors hearing us cheering and yelling.
“We were a solid team supporting each other and so proud to finally walk away with the trophy we have been so close to getting for so many years.”
